Arsenal Women’s Manager Joe Montemurro commended the FA for confirming that the FA Cup will return from March 31st.

The FA was in talks with FIFA and this week confirmed that the competition – after the fifth round – can go into the next season if necessary.

The competition was originally suspended in January following the end of “non-elite” sports, but will now continue on March 29, in line with the return of grassroots football.

The remaining game in the first round takes place on March 31st, followed by the second round from April 4th, the third round from April 11th, and the fourth round from April 18th.

“I recommend the FA to succeed – whether we can make it this season remains to be seen but I think it’s important for smaller clubs and for the tournament in general,” Montemurro told Sky Sports News.

“We love the tournament and we are happy. Every game we can get, we can take.”

At Arsenal’s next game in the women’s Super League, they will face Birmingham City, the strange venue of St. George’s Park, on Sunday.

The FA national headquarters will host the game – and Montemurro is excited to be playing in a place with such excellent facilities.

“It was an FA decision and we’re getting a game on a very good surface so we’re really excited about it,” he said.

“Our problem this year has been the regularity of the games and the consistency of the games. So we’ll take what we can get.”
