MASON, Ohio (AP) – The top ranked Ash Barty won her fifth title of the season, winning eight of Wild Card Jil Teichmann’s last nine games for a 6-3, 6-1 win in the final of Sunday’s Western & Southern Open.

Barty, who won her first Wimbledon title in July before getting excited in the first round at the Tokyo Olympics, now has plenty of momentum ahead of the US Open, which kicks off in New York on August 30th.

Teichmann had a surprising run into the final and annoyed the second-placed Naomi Osaka, the Olympic champion Belinda Bencic and the fourth-placed Karolina Pliskova.

“This is where you belong,” said Barty to Teichmann at the ceremony after the game. “You played exceptional tennis this week.”

Australia’s Barty broke Teichmann’s serve to take a 5-3 lead in the first set and then won the next six games.
