Close Call ends bid in Open | Sports news

An offer, however indirect, from a representative from Mooresville to qualify for the United States Senior Open pro golf championship last weekend by completing the game came close to reality.

Chris Hunsucker of Mooresville, who continues to be active in the sport, has once again earned his qualification as a participant in the US Senior Open, one of the division’s five major events run by the United States Golf Association. Hunsucker is a retired Mooresville High School golfer who continues to have a presence on the fairway.

The American native made big headlines just a few years ago when he secured a spot at the US Open based on his qualifying performance, which came in less than two weeks after successful cancer surgery. He was able to attend the Main Event to receive rave nationwide for his efforts.

At this year’s attraction, Hunsucker was once again able to move among the giants of the game in the starting field.
