Class 2A No. 9 Underwood Softball defeated Tri-Center for the fourth time this season on Friday in Underwood, this time 11-2 in the regional semi-final game.

The Adler’s first two runs came from wild pitches in the second inning. The Trojans eventually responded with a run in the top of the fourth inning. After Crouse and the Eagles left a team hanging out in their quarterfinal game, they wanted to respond quickly to stay in control.

“We got into this game and reminded everyone that this game is ‘do or die’,” said Eagles coach Lea Crouse. “We came into this game with this no holding back mentality. This could be our last game so let’s play hard for us and the seven seniors we have.”

The Eagles have come up with a great answer to regaining lost momentum with a fourth inning of five runs. Highlighted by Senior Ella Pierce with a double RBI and her twin sister, Senior Maddie Pierce followed with a deep blow to the left field for a three-RBI double to put Underwood in full control.

“Every time our opponent runs, we just say we have to beat them,” said Maddie Pierce. “We definitely did that in this game and I was very impressed with our goal overall and our defense so as not to deny them any further chances of a run.”

The Eagles pinned three more after senior Taylor Nelson joined for a two-RBI triple. Another runner would score to make it 11-2 Underwood. The Trojans forced the Eagles to strand a runner in third in order to extend the game to at least six innings.
