GoodGuys Car Show brings one of the first in-person events back to Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – One of the first major events to return to Central Ohio in the COVID-19 era is expected to draw thousands of visitors to Columbus over the weekend. The GoodGuys Car Show will take place again at the Ohio Expo Center from July 9th to 12th.

“The last year was definitely tough. I think it was hard for everyone, everyone can relate to it. Especially at the beginning of 2021 … we didn’t know exactly where the year would lead us, ”said Stephanie Schönnagel, Marketing Director of the event.

The cross-country motor show will have a full program this summer. According to Schönnagel, more than 6,000 people from at least 40 countries were registered in Columbus to show their vehicles.

“I expect they’ll have a pretty good audience this year,” said Ralph Shillingburg.

The Pickerington resident wiped the fog off his 35 Chevy 3 Window Coupe on Friday morning.

“We join them every year. A couple of us get together and have a good time, see what’s new, ”he said.

The auto show has become an annual tradition for many visitors.

“I like the cars. I’ve liked her all my life. And there are a lot of them here, ”said Steve McBride.

Charlie Brenot added, “It’s nice to be back and see cars again.”

The cars, all older than 1987, drove through one of the main gates into the Ohio State Fairgrounds on Friday. Some viewers say the experience takes them back in time to the muscle cars and running boards. Others said it felt like the pre-COVID-19 era.

“It feels like it used to,” said Brenot.

Schönnagel stated that many of the returning guests have become a community over the years.

“It’s a really great reunion for people. You don’t see some of these people all year, so this is where you come to Columbus to meet again, chat, and talk about cars. It brings everyone back together, ”she said.
