All sporting events in Iraq will be suspended to avoid large gatherings as the number of coronaviruses continues to rise across the country, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.
Sayf Al-Badr told the Iraqi Official News Agency (INA) that all events involving large gatherings will be postponed on “orders from the National Supreme Health and Safety Committee of Iraq”.
He explained that the decision included “all games” and stressed that there were no exceptions. The move came as part of government precautions to prevent the virus from spreading.
To date, a total of 646,650 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Iraq, of whom 13,185 have died and 608,178 others have recovered.
