MAKANDA, Ill. (KFVS) – Giant City State Park will host several events in July.

Giant City State Park Bowfishing 101 program

Giant City State Park is hosting a Bowfishing 101 program on Saturday, July 10th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The program explains methods, equipment, regulations and ethics of bow fishing.

Participants will have the opportunity to do hands-on learning with bow fishing gear and fish targets.

This program is free, aimed at beginners, and is suitable for all ages.

Registration is limited, please call 618-457-4836 to register.

Family fishing programs at Giant City State Park

Head to Giant City State Park every Thursday evening in July from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a little evening fishing with the IDNR Urban Fishing Coordinator.

This free family program is aimed at children ages 5-12 and teaches the basics of fishing.

No need to bring sticks or bait as all supplies are provided.

Sun walks in Giant City State Park

Roll out of bed on Friday July 9th and Friday July 30th at 6:30 a.m. and train with the Giant City Park Naturalist and explore the forest early in the morning on one of eight hiking trails in Giant City State Park .

The trails vary from 1-3 miles and are moderate with some steep stairs.
