LEXINGTON, Kentucky (AP) – Will Levis hit his Kentucky debut for career highs of 367 yards and four touchdowns, including two to move from Wan’Dale Robinson, and the Wildcats overcame an early hole to make Louisiana Monroe 45-10 blown out at the season opener on Saturday.

Playing in front of the biggest crowd in nearly two years after a season of COVID-19-induced viewing restrictions on a sunny afternoon, the Wildcats shook off a 7-0 deficit on sales to overwhelm the rebuilding Warhawks. Kentucky revealed a new pro-set offensive with former Penn State quarterback Levis behind the center, piling 341 of his 554 yards at halftime alone to lead 28-7, leaving the Warhawks past midfield only twice after the giveaway.

The offensive numbers thoroughly showed Levis’ understanding of the new coordinator Liam Coen’s up-tempo scheme that ULM couldn’t stop. After his first pass went from Josh Ali’s fingertips to ULM’s Jabari Johnson, the junior quickly regrouped to deliver the flashy games Kentucky lacked last season.

Levis met Robinson, a Kentucky and Nebraska transfer, with TD passes of 33 and 15 yards for a 58-yard scoring pass to Ali. He beat Brendan Bates with a 4-yard TD early in the fourth quarter to finish 18 of 26 passing for 367 yards.

Robinson caught five passes for 125 yards while Ali caught five for 136. Chris Rodriguez Jr. stormed for 125 yards 19 times with a 2-yard TD.
