NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH) – New Haven Public Schools announced that students attending sporting events will only be allowed to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian until further notice.

The announcement comes after several fights in the stands during Friday’s football game between James Hillhouse High School and Hamden High School.

Superintendent Dr. Iline Tracey told families that these incidents created unsafe conditions for fans and required action from the New Haven Police Department.

Due to the fighting, the New Haven Public Schools announced that until further notice, students are only allowed to participate in the sporting events if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The legal guardian is obliged to be present while the student is present.
