PITTSBURGH (AP) – Kevin Newman set a major league record with four doubles – in consecutive innings, no less – and the Pittsburgh Pirates overtook the Milwaukee Brewers 14-4 on Saturday to end their eight-game losing streak in the first Game of a. to break double head.

Newman doubled every inning from the third through the sixth in the seven-inning game. He also met four times.

Newman’s third double drove in two to ignite a fifth six, which included Bryan Reynolds’ two homers. That outbreak broke the game open and gave the Pirates a 12-4 lead.

The only Pirates to previously hit four doubles in a game were 1932 Hall of Famer Paul Waner and 2019 Adam Frazier.

Rookie Hoy Park had three of the Pirates’ 19 hits. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Reynolds, Rodolfo Castro and Gregory Polanco each added two hits. Hayes, Jacob Stallings, and Newman each had two RBIs.

Pinch hitters Wilmer Difo and Hayes added RBIs in the big fifth.

Chasen Shreve (1-0) hit the team in the fifth round.

Brett Anderson (4-6) was marked for six runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. In eight career decisions, he lost to the Pirates for the second time.

Pirates starter Bryse Wilson has remained without a win in three starts since he was acquired in a deal by Atlanta on July 30th. He was charged with four runs in four innings while giving up seven hits.

The Brewers’ Tyrone Taylor had two hits, including a solo home run in the fourth, which equated to 4 winning streak within the division.

The Pirates answered Taylor’s bang with two runs in the bottom quarter to take a 6-4 lead. Pinch hitters John Nogowski and Hayes hit RBI single.

A third inning with four runs helped the Pirates level a 3-0 deficit. Stallings’ two-run infield single topped the inning, which included Hoy’s RBI single and a run-producing groundout by Colin Moran.

Kolten Wong led a game with a home run for the sixth time in his career and the Brewers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third when they scored on a wild place from Wilson and a singles from Pina.

The game was an addition to the rain on Friday night.

Brewer: RF Avisail Garcia (left hand bruise) missed a second game in a row. … 1B Rowdy Tellez (right knee problem) returned after a break in play.

The Brewers start rookie LHP Aaron Ashby (0-1, 13.50 ERA) in Nightcap against RHP Mitch Keller (3-9, 7.06). Ashby is set to make his third MLB start. Keller is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA since being recalled by Triple-A Indianapolis.
