Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life events are slated to return this fall, with social distancing measures in place to keep everyone safe.

They are scheduled for September 8th at Haigh Woodland Park, Pennington Flash on September 19th and Haydock Park Racecourse on October 17th.

The money raised will help scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer and save lives as the charity battles the effects of the pandemic. Those who register before July 4th can claim 30 percent of the entry fee with the code RFLJUNE30.

Siobhan Byrne, Cancer Research UK spokesperson for the Northwest, said, “Race For Life is the perfect opportunity for people across the region to run, walk or jog and raise funds for life-saving research.

“All 400 Race For Life mass-participation events across the UK were canceled last year to protect the health of the country during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, this year more than ever we need people to take part in the Race For Life – for the people we love, for the people we have lost and for each of us who will get cancer. ”

The events are open to people of all ages and abilities and this year the participants will go on the course alone or in small, socially distant groups. Hand disinfectant will be provided before and after the event.

Siobhan added, “We will ask attendees to respect social distancing before, during and after the event.

“But we promise that our events will remain colorful, emotional and uplifting. The safety of our Race For Life participants is an absolute priority for us. We have been constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation and developing ways to ensure our events can run safely as directed by the government. Events may look a little different this year, but we are proactively working with our venues and suppliers to provide a socially aloof but great experience.

“We know that 2020 was a year like no other and that we had to overcome many challenges during the global pandemic. But the past year proves more than any other the value of investing in science and medical research and what can be achieved through collaboration. Just as science is our way out of the pandemic, science is our way to defeat cancer. We are determined to continue developing even better cancer therapies tomorrow. ”

If an event is canceled, the participants are entitled to a refund of the entry fee or can donate this research work to cancer research.
