Each of the local individuals who earned an appearance at the NC High School Athletic Association’s Women’s Open Wrestling Invitational figured out just how far they both need to go and grow.

Both newcomers and thus their first appearances in a state finale, the duo of Lake Norman High School girls’ wrestling representatives Kaiya Bell and Wildcat Caleigh Suddreth had each shortened their time outs on the mat when they were during the individual losing segment of the competition.

The NCHSAA hosted the third annual Women’s Wrestling Invitational at Glenn High School, with more than 130 participants from around the state competing in 13 weight classes.

Lake Norman’s Bell competed in the 113-pound weight class of the affair.

Suddreth of the Wildcats helped form the 145 pound division.

Bell suffered a pinfall loss in her B Division opening game of the 113 pound category.

Suddreth moved into the second round, before she also ended her stay with a defeat.

The competition was conducted in the form of single-elimination during the first two rounds of the event. Those who made it through to the third round then helped form the final field in each weight class.
