Brightside and the Downtown Louisville Partnership host sweep and sip events every month to keep the city beautiful – and volunteers are rewarded.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Clearing up rubbish is not a pleasant task, but it is necessary to keep our streets and parks beautiful. Brightside, a Louisville community organization, is working with the Louisville Downtown Partnership to make this job a little more rewarding – with free beer.

The Sweep & Sip events take place every first Sunday of the month except in winter. Brightside provides the tools and volunteers do the work – they pick up trash to beautify downtown Louisville.

Once the job is done, volunteers can enjoy a free beer from a participating local brewery.

“There’s a lot to do with rubbish in our town,” said Lorri Roberts, Brightside’s events and volunteer coordinator.

Brightside has been keeping Louisville beautiful since 1986 through “clean and green activities” that anyone can help with. Over the past five years, Brightside’s cleanups have collected more than 300 tons of trash.

“It’s always great to drive down the street that was recently cleaned and know that you were part of that cleanup,” said Roberts.

Two more Sweep & Sip events will take place in October and November in 2021. Click here for more information on the next event.

Many thanks to TEN20 Craft Brewery for hosting the Sept Sweep & Sip event. We had a huge turnout from volunteers and Mayor Greg Fischer who helped keep our city clean and green!

If that doesn’t fit your schedule, Brightside is hosting a Community Fall Cleanup event on October 23rd. The organization said this event was perfect for sports teams, boy scout groups, or corporate team building. To register for the community event, click here.

The organization also helps coordinate neighborhood cleanups and provides educational resources on the importance of a clean city. A full list of events and other resources is available online.

In Louisville, too, keeping our neighborhoods and cities clean isn’t just a mission. National CleanUp Day, a day dedicated to your contribution to preserving the beauty of our world, is Saturday September 18th.

In 2019, over 2 million volunteers across the country took part in National CleanUp Day, collecting 18 million pounds of waste in one day. For more information on this initiative, visit the National CleanUp Day website.
